Redirecting…
We are involved intensively in an Open Source Project with the goal to establish a new standard for a 4GL programming language. Our task is to build a state of the art GUI (Grafical User Interface). This GUI or “Ventas-Desktop-Client (VDC)” is a thin client, running on a Desktop while on the server an application written on Aubit4gl ist running.
How can an application looks like with this new Client?
The motivation to program this Client has two roots: to fit the need of the VENTAS AG for a modern GUI where new ideas can be implemented soon and to establish this language as a standard for creating 4gl based applications.
The Client communicates with the server via a new XML based protocol, which is lean and flexible as well. The network traffic is reduced to a minimum, so that the VDC can be used everywhere when internet is available keeping the data centralized on the application server.
Also the use of C++ as programming language for the VDC helps to have the fastest user interface possible. In addition to that the Client should run on all common platforms like Windows, OS X (Mac), Linux and other Unixes. The screen shots shown above were taken from an Ubuntu Desktop.
We work on this project as Ventas Research & Support, which concentrates on developing new Software.
This project is under the GPLv2 licence and we can not give any warranty unless you have a commercial support agreement with us. For assuring commercial support in different countries there was formed an association of companies called 4GL Alliance where we are part from.
The more companies and people are involved and supporting this project the more advantage we all will take of it. So please feel warmly invited to use these tools and even to contribute. There are different forms to contribute: reporting bugs, sending to us your ideas for good new features, programming, adding interesting tools to the project, making a donation, inviting others to participate and also if you feel good when you think on this projekt.
